At one of our Wednesday evening art sessions, Steve Balding delighted us all with a collection of paintings he made back in the early 90s of popular cartoon characters of that, and previous eras. In this collection you can spot Garfield, Asterix the Gaul characters (although not Asterix himself) an older style Mickey Mouse and Duckula.

These were re-discovered in his garage after being buried under accumulated 'stuff' for years. They were brought-out, dusted off, and brought-in to show us. It was decided there and then that they deserved a Showcase page all to themselves.

On the technical side of things, they were painted on the smooth side of hardboard backing panels (the sort you find at the back of kitchen cabinets). The paints used were enamels, in the small pots used to paint plastic Airfix-type model aeroplanes etc. It's amazing to me that you can't see any brush stokes!
