DISCUSSION / PRESENTATION ON AI ART  7th June 2023.
This Wednesday we had a fascinating insight into the production of artwork using Artificial Intelligence (AI) provided by AI artist Alistair Gillan.

For those who are not familiar with the concept...

AI art is a creative process that involves the application of artificial intelligence techniques to generate or enhance artistic content. It typically begins with a 'training' phase where an AI model is fed with vast amounts of existing art or data to learn patterns and styles. Once trained, the AI model can then generate new artistic outputs by making predictions based on the patterns it has learned. This can involve creating original artworks, transforming existing images, or even collaborating with human artists. AI algorithms can analyse visual features, textures, colours, and compositional elements, enabling them to mimic various artistic styles or generate novel and imaginative pieces. By blending machine learning algorithms with human creativity, AI art opens up new possibilities for artistic expression, challenging traditional notions of authorship and raising intriguing questions about the relationship between technology and creativity.

Before the talk, I think some group members were of the view that AI art was 'cheating' to a greater or lesser degree. After the talk, I think that many members changed their view on this and were much more accepting of it as a valid way of producing real art. The artwork that Alistair has produced is a great demonstration of this.

Please note: I did not write the information above about how AI art works. I asked the AI model 'ChatGPT' to provide me with a paragraph on how AI art works - and this is what it gave me. In about 5 seconds. I made one minor tweak to it. (I've since noted that the Wix website now has an AI feature to generate text for web developers like me!)

Below is a sliding gallery of Alistair and the talk.

T-SHIRTS ANYONE?!!

As an experiment, we are looking to offer the opportunity for you as a member to have a one or more of your favourite paintings (your own or anyone else's) printed onto a T-shirt for personal use or as a gift.

Below is an example of a printed T-shirt with one of Sue Vinson's paintings. There's also a T-shirt with a small printed logo. We are looking at the possibility of getting the logo made larger.

At the moment, the T-shirts only come in white, although you can supply your own for printing on if you want. Current cost for a printed white T-shirt is £12.99 + RAT (Roche Art Tax).

We may branch out into other products in the future like canvas prints, posters, mugs etc etc.

If you are interested in getting a T-shirt (or other product) printed, please send email to the group email address with requirements or for further details: rocheartgroup@gmail.com

Rayleigh WI Exhibition: Votes for 'Best in Show'

This slide show movie, now on the Group's You Tube channel and Facebook page, shows all the paintings that received 1 vote or more from the visiting public who were asked to choose their favourite.

Please note: some photos of the paintings have been manipulated to enable them to be viewed more clearly. Some, for example, had excessive reflections from the glass in the frames. Unfortunately this could not be done in all cases so some reflections can still be seen.
